Friday
Today was competition day - we were divided arbitrarily into groups of 3 and had to give ourselves a name – there were the Jammy Team, Southern Comfort, Judges Favourites, No Bull, Suck-ups and No Nombres! We had to take turns and drive 4 cattle from one end of the arena through two cones, round a barrel and then through a gate – opening and closing the gate before and after. There were time penalties and style marks. Then we had to do it all again but with two animals we had to cut out. We all had great fun!
Then a picnic lunch on the lawn and I decided to try out the Mule – Cotton. They told me he was difficult to catch and so he lives in a pen with Casanova! Due to our combined nerves I left the main ride when he started to go backwards but was allowed to join a smaller ride and when I was a little more firm and determined he went fine!
The evening’s entertainment is the Melodrama so we are all looking forward to lots of laughs!
Saturday
The Melodrama was great as usual and we laughed fit to burst. Saturday morning saw the biggest beaver early am. Breakfast at the jail – ate too much food! Rode out with Owen, Jeff’s 10 year old son and he and Kevin had spear (Mullen/Indian toilet paper/Indian tobacco) fight at Table Rock.
Then a late lunch and off again with Owen, Steve and Jeff (Wrangler) to Olympic Park. Lots of hunters about today. Owen sang loudly to scare off the deer but then a deer spooked his horse as it sprung up out of the under growth. A good lope home along Jessup Drive. It was so hot I rode in a tee shirt and then a group of us sat on the lawn with Rainy using Louise as a pillow and enjoyed the sun. Can’t believe it’s October.
I hope to upload some photos tomorrow when there is more time.
