Our Brand of Western Hospitality
Since I wrote last, our last two foals were born. Tari had our second colt about two weeks ago. He’s a
sorrel and so sweet! One of our guests
spotted our last foal in the meadows while on the pre-breakfast ride about a
week later. She’s our only filly for the
year and is a cute sorrel with four stockings and a beautiful blaze.
Also in animal news…we have our cows and they are all out at pasture. This year, Tony decided to try
something we haven’t done in a while. Instead of trailering the cows to pasture, we
drove them half way to Corral Creek and left Tony and several guests and wranglers
to watch them over night. The guys
enjoyed a taste of the “real” cowboy life sleeping under the stars with the
cows. They came back the next day sore
and tired having successfully driven the cows to pasture in the south. Hopefully these cows will enjoy the Colorado
Mountains and not attempt to high tail it back to Mexico every chance they get
like last year’s herd. If you think
about it…say a
little prayer that the cows will come back to the Ranch this fall fat and happy…ALL of them.
We officially opened for the Summer season over Memorial Day weekend and started our first official week, with 18 guests. We’re having a
great time participating in all the “firsts” of the season. The first melodrama did not disappoint and
was (if you can imagine it) more silly than usual. The fountain opened and we
were up to our elbows in ice cream every afternoon. I went on the first
Breakfast Ride of the season and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the first
wildflowers blooming along the trail.
Saturday night saw our first goodbyes…always
hard after enjoying the company of weeklong guests. But the second week of summer started strong
with 85 guests, hot, hot sun, and lots of kids! Everywhere you turn kids are
running around with a snake, or jumping on a wrangler in the pool, or sticking
hot feet into the creek. Welcome back
kids! We’ve missed the life and excitement you bring with you.
